The LR6 is a single-use 1.5 V alkaline cylindrical. The codes below are the same physical cell sold under different manufacturer names, and any of them will fit.

| NiMH AA / HR6 | Rechargeable at 1.2 V rather than 1.5. It runs almost everything, but devices that judge "low battery" by voltage will report empty early, and a few — some smoke alarms and glucose meters — refuse it outright. |
| FR6 lithium AA | Also 1.5 V and a legitimate drop-in for most things, but it holds a higher voltage under load and runs hotter in high-drain devices. A few manufacturers specifically exclude it; check before using it in a medical device. |

> The LR6 is a primary cell and must never be put in a charger. Charging a sealed primary battery builds gas pressure inside a can with no vent designed for it, which is how they rupture or catch fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist for several sizes and carry different codes — check the code, not the shape.
