## What it actually does

Baked bread is starch and water and does nothing bad to a dog or cat beyond adding calories. For rabbits and birds it is a genuine problem, because both depend on a specific gut ecology or a nutrient-dense diet that bread displaces. Feeding bread to wild waterfowl is discouraged for exactly this reason — it fills the bird without feeding it, and the uneaten remainder fouls the water.

No reliable dose threshold has been published for this. Anything presenting a specific safe amount is extrapolating.
