That combination drains body heat steadily, so hypothermia rather than air or water is the usual cause of death in caving accidents, especially for someone immobilised by injury. Air is rarely the constraint in a large system, though bad air pockets with high carbon dioxide or low oxygen do occur in some caves and are genuinely dangerous. Drip water is often drinkable, which removes the three-day limit.
