# The flag of Fiji

Fiji announced in 2013 that it would remove the Union Jack and ran a design competition, then abandoned the plan in 2016 — the prime minister cited the country's rugby sevens Olympic gold medal, won under the existing flag, as a reason to keep it. The light blue is much paler than the navy of the Australian and New Zealand ensigns and is the fastest way to identify it. The shield is the full national arms minus the supporters and motto. Fiji is one of only a handful of republics still flying another country's flag in its canton.

## What the colours mean

*Flag laws usually specify a Pantone chip, a CMYK mix or just a colour name. Converting any of those to sRGB is lossy, which is why published hex values disagree.*
