# The flag of Liechtenstein

The crown was added for one reason: at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Liechtenstein discovered that its flag was identical to Haiti's. The addition was made the following year and is one of the very few flag changes in history made purely to resolve a duplication. The crown sits in the hoist quarter so that it identifies the flag even when the fly is out of sight. Liechtenstein and Haiti had both used a plain blue-over-red bicolour since the nineteenth century and neither had noticed.
