# The flag of Mongolia

The Soyombo is a column of ideographs from a script invented in 1686 by Zanabazar, and each element has a stated meaning, making it one of the most heavily loaded emblems on any flag. The two vertical rectangles flanking the centre stand for the walls of a fortress and carry the proverb "the friendship of two men is stronger than stone walls". A socialist star was removed from above the Soyombo in 1992. The blue central band is the eternal sky of Tengrist tradition, which is also why Mongolia is called the land of the eternal blue sky.

## What the colours mean

*Flag laws usually specify a Pantone chip, a CMYK mix or just a colour name. Converting any of those to sRGB is lossy, which is why published hex values disagree.*
