# The flag of Pakistan

**The flag of Pakistan: A dark green field with a white crescent and five-pointed star at the centre of the fly, and a white vertical band occupying the quarter nearest the hoist.**

The white hoist band is the flag's substantive statement: it was added specifically to represent Pakistan's non-Muslim citizens, and its proportion — one quarter of the flag — was a deliberate choice by the Constituent Assembly in August 1947. The flag is known as the Parcham-e-Sitāra-o-Hilāl and was designed by Amiruddin Kidwai from the Muslim League banner. The green is a very dark bottle green rather than the mid-green most reproductions use. The crescent and star sit in the centre of the green portion, not the centre of the flag.

## What the colours mean

*Flag laws usually specify a Pantone chip, a CMYK mix or just a colour name. Converting any of those to sRGB is lossy, which is why published hex values disagree.*
