# Gmail keyboard shortcuts

**Gmail keyboard shortcuts: 69 shortcuts**

Browser

Gmail is Google's webmail client. Almost none of these work until you switch them on: open Settings, then See all settings, then General, and set Keyboard shortcuts to on. Once enabled, most actions are a single letter, and several are two-key chords written here as "g then i" — press the keys one after the other, not together.

## Compose and reply

| Shortcut | What it does |

| c | Compose a new message |
| d | Compose in a new tab |
| r | Reply to the sender |
| Shift + r | Reply in a new window |
| a | Reply to everyone |
| Shift + a | Reply to everyone in a new window |
| f | Forward the message |
| Shift + f | Forward in a new window |
| Ctrl/⌘ + Enter | Send the message |
| Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + c | Add Cc recipients |
| Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + b | Add Bcc recipients |
| Ctrl/⌘ + k | Insert a link |
| Esc | Move focus to the latest compose or chat window |

## Navigation

| g then p | Go to the previous page of the thread list |
| u | Go back to the thread list |
| k | Move to a newer conversation |
| j | Move to an older conversation |
| o | Open the selected conversation — Enter does the same |
| p | Move to the previous message in an open conversation |
| n | Move to the next message in an open conversation |
| ` | Go to the next inbox section |
| ~ | Go to the previous inbox section |

## Message actions

| x | Select the conversation |
| s | Star the conversation, or cycle through superstars |
| e | Archive the conversation |
| m | Mute the conversation |
| ! | Report the conversation as spam |
| # | Delete the conversation |
| z | Undo the last action |
| Shift + i | Mark as read |
| Shift + u | Mark as unread |
| + | Mark as important — The equals key does the same |
| - | Mark as not important |
| b | Snooze the conversation |
| Shift + t | Add the conversation to Tasks |
| ; | Expand the whole conversation |
| : | Collapse the whole conversation |
| ] | Archive and move to the next conversation — [ does the same but moves to the previous one |

## Selecting threads

| * then s | Select the starred conversations |
| * then t | Select the unstarred conversations |
