**USB 2.0: 480 Mbit/s, 2.5 W (500 mA at 5 V)**

Released in 2000 and still ubiquitous, because it is fast enough for keyboards, mice, printers and audio interfaces and cheap to implement. A USB-C connector does not imply anything faster — a great many USB-C cables and ports are USB 2.0 internally, which is why an external drive can be slow despite having the right plug.
