**Footwear: other materials: That part is made of something that is neither leather nor textile.**

## What it looks like

A plain diamond or rhombus.

## What it means

The catch-all, and it usually means synthetic — polyurethane, PVC, rubber or a bonded material sold as vegan leather. Like resin code 7 it groups materials with nothing in common, so it tells you what the part is not rather than what it is. On the outer sole pictogram the diamond is normal and expected, since most soles are rubber or polyurethane; on the upper it is the mark distinguishing a synthetic shoe from a leather one.

> Defined by Directive 94/11/EC on footwear labelling. Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.
