**Footwear: textile: That part of the shoe is a textile, natural or synthetic.**

## What it looks like

A cross-hatched weave — two sets of threads interlaced at right angles, like a magnified fabric.

## What it means

Covers canvas, mesh, knit uppers and fabric linings without distinguishing between them or between natural and synthetic fibres. On the lining pictogram it is worth noticing, because a textile lining absorbs moisture where a synthetic one does not, which is most of the difference in how a shoe feels after an hour. Cleaning follows the fabric rather than the shoe: textile uppers take water-based cleaners that would mark leather.
