## What it means

F stands for the petroleum-derived solvents with a distillation range of roughly 150–210 °C and a flash point of 38–70 °C. It is a narrower instruction than P: a garment marked F must not go through a perc machine, because the stronger solvent will strip the dye, dissolve adhesives or shrink the interlining. Not every cleaner has hydrocarbon equipment, so this is a symbol worth reading before dropping the item off rather than after.
