Kaieteur Falls on the Potaro drops 226 m in a single uninterrupted plunge, about four and a half times the height of Niagara, and is one of the most powerful single-drop falls in the world. Around eighty percent of the country is still forest, and most people live on a narrow coastal strip, much of it below high-tide level and protected by a sea wall.
