What is the average human reaction time?
About 250 milliseconds to a visual stimulus, 170 to a sound and 155 to touch. The between-person spread is wide, and browser-based tests add 20 to 80 ms of hardware latency on top.
What is a good reaction time?
Under 250 ms on a visual test is normal, under 200 ms is quick, and anything under about 150 ms usually means the click was anticipated rather than reacted. Compare attempts on the same device — different screens and mice differ by more than most people do.
Is a reflex the same as a reaction time?
No. A reflex turns round in the spinal cord without reaching the brain and takes about 20 to 90 milliseconds. A reaction is a decision made in the brain and takes 150 to 300. Different circuits entirely.
