How do I open a .jpeg file?

On Windows use Photos (built in); on macOS use Preview (built in); on Linux use Image Viewer / Loupe (built in). The same format as .jpg — the longer spelling, kept alive by Macs and Unix systems.

What is a .jpeg file?

JPEG Image (four-letter form). There is no difference at all between .jpeg and .jpg. Early Windows and DOS limited extensions to three characters, so the format was truncated to .jpg there while Mac and Unix software kept the full .jpeg.

Can I convert a .jpeg file?

Yes. It is usually converted to .jpg, .png, .webp, .pdf or .tiff, either by exporting from one of the programs listed above or with a format converter.
