Like Bosnia's, this flag was designed to avoid symbolism rather than to carry it: the 2007 competition rules forbade the use of black, red or the double-headed eagle, and required a design acceptable to every community. One of the only two flags showing a map of its own territory, the other being Cyprus. The winning entry, by Muhamer Ibrahimi, was chosen from 993 submissions. This entry describes the flag and does not address questions of recognition or status.
