Sky over wheat — the symbolism is agricultural and the order matters, because during the short-lived 1918 republic the flag was flown yellow over blue for a time and the question was settled definitively only in 1992. The colours come from the arms of the medieval Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia, a gold lion on blue. The flag was banned in the Soviet period and readopted in January 1992 after independence. Since 2022 it has become one of the most reproduced flags in the world, and the exact shades — Pantone 2935 C and 012 C — are now widely published by the Ukrainian government itself.
