At full capability it carries 4K at 120 Hz or 8K at 60 Hz, plus variable refresh rate and enhanced audio return. The catch is that HDMI 2.1 features are optional. After the 2.0 label was retired, a device supporting only old 2.0 capabilities can still be sold as 2.1, and many are. Check for the named features — 4K120, VRR, eARC — rather than the version number.
