The standard office size in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines and Chile; almost everywhere else uses A4. Letter is 6 mm wider and 18 mm shorter than A4, which is enough that a document laid out for one prints with wrong margins on the other, and enough that a ream of one does not sit flush in a tray set for the other. Its proportions are not preserved on halving, so unlike the A series there is no clean scaling relationship between Letter and its smaller siblings.
