How do I open a .sql file?

On Windows use DBeaver; on macOS use DBeaver; on Linux use DBeaver. A text file of database commands — often a full database dump.

What is a .sql file?

SQL Script. A .sql file holds SQL statements, usually either a schema definition or an entire database export produced by mysqldump or pg_dump. It is plain text, so a small one opens in any editor, but a dump of a real database can be gigabytes and will hang a graphical editor.

Can I convert a .sql file?

Yes. It is usually converted to .csv, .txt or .db, either by exporting from one of the programs listed above or with a format converter.
