Induction compatible
Induction compatible
The pan has a ferromagnetic base and will work on an induction hob.
What it looks like
Four or five horizontal loops stacked like a flattened coil, sometimes drawn as a zigzag spiral, on the base of the pan.
What it means
Induction heats the pan by inducing a current in it, so the base has to be magnetic — cast iron and most stainless steel work, while aluminium, copper and glass do not unless a steel disc has been bonded to the bottom. The kitchen test is exactly as good as the symbol: if a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the base, the pan will work. Diameter matters too, since a base much smaller than the hob's minimum will not be detected at all.
Defined by Manufacturer declaration. Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.
