What it means
The temperature limit is usually set by the weakest component rather than the main material — a silicone seal, a plastic knob, a glued handle. Ovenproof glass is the case worth care with: borosilicate and toughened soda-lime ovenware tolerate oven heat but not sudden change, so a hot dish onto a wet worktop or under a cold tap can shatter it, and that thermal-shock limit is not what the oven symbol describes. Grills and broilers are also excluded unless separately stated, because direct radiant heat is far more intense than the oven air temperature.
