Vegetarian mark (India)
Vegetarian mark (India)
In India, the product contains no animal-derived ingredient.
What it looks like
A filled green circle inside a green square outline.
What it means
Mandatory on packaged food under the Indian food safety regulations, and unusually strict by international standards: eggs count as non-vegetarian, so an egg-containing product cannot carry the green mark. Dairy is permitted. The mark is specific to India and has no legal meaning elsewhere, though it appears on exported products; a European or US "suitable for vegetarians" claim allows eggs and follows different rules entirely.
Defined by Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, India. Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.
