When was the last leap second added?
Twenty-seven leap seconds have been inserted since 1972 to keep atomic time within 0.9 seconds of the Earth's rotation, which is irregular. In November 2022 the General Conference on Weights and Measures voted to stop the practice by 2035, because leap seconds break computer systems in ways that are difficult to test for — several major outages have been traced to one. A negative leap second, removing a second, has never been needed but is now plausible, since the Earth has recently been spinning slightly fast.

This page gives a date and never a "years ago". These pages are built as static files, so a computed interval would freeze at build time and quietly become wrong — which on a reference site is worse than making the reader do the subtraction.
