Schema markup generator
Generate JSON-LD structured data for an organisation, article, FAQ, product or local business.
How it works
Produces JSON-LD structured data for the common schema.org types, ready to paste into the page head.
JSON-LD is the format Google recommends, because it sits in one block rather than being woven through the markup, which makes it far easier to keep correct when the page changes. Microdata and RDFa still work and are not deprecated.
Structured data has to describe what is actually on the page. Marking up an FAQ that is not visible, or a review that does not exist, is a structured data policy violation and a common cause of manual actions — the penalty removes rich results for the whole site, not just the offending page.
Note that FAQ rich results were substantially restricted in 2023 and now show mainly for government and health sites. The markup is still worth having for machine readability, but it should not be added expecting the visual result it produced a few years ago.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server, logged or stored, and the page keeps working with the network disconnected.
Common questions
- Which structured data format should I use?
- JSON-LD. Google recommends it, and keeping it in one block rather than interleaved with markup makes it much easier to keep accurate.
- Can I mark up content that is not visible on the page?
- No. Structured data must describe visible page content. Marking up hidden or non-existent FAQs and reviews is a policy violation that can cost rich results sitewide.
- Do FAQ rich results still appear?
- Rarely. Google restricted them in 2023 to mainly government and health sites. The markup remains useful for machine readability, not for the visual treatment.
