Codes that mean the same battery

Different manufacturers, one physical battery. Voltage, chemistry and dimensions all match.
Code Fits?
27A Yes — same cell
8LR732 Yes — same cell
MN27 Yes — same cell

A27BP Yes — same cell
G27A Yes — same cell
EL812 Yes — same cell

Codes that look close but are not

Code Why it is not a substitute
A23 / 8LR932 The same 12 V and nearly the same length, but 2.3 mm wider and with more than twice the capacity. An A27 in an A23 holder makes poor contact; an A23 will not enter an A27 holder.

The 8LR732 is a primary cell and must never be put in a charger. Charging a sealed primary battery builds gas pressure inside a can with no vent designed for it, which is how they rupture or catch fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist for several sizes and carry different codes — check the code, not the shape.

Where it turns up

  • Slim car alarm and keyless entry remotes
  • Gate and barrier remotes
  • Some medical alert buttons
  • Wireless doorbell transmitters

Common questions

What is equivalent to a 8LR732?
27A, 8LR732, MN27, V27GA, L828, GP27A, A27BP, G27A, EL812 — all the same 12 V cell under different manufacturer codes.
Can I use a A23 / 8LR932 instead of a 8LR732?
The same 12 V and nearly the same length, but 2.3 mm wider and with more than twice the capacity. An A27 in an A23 holder makes poor contact; an A23 will not enter an A27 holder.
Is the 8LR732 rechargeable?
No. It is a primary cell — charging one risks rupture or fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist in the same size under different codes.
