The tower visit runs in one direction only: a lift takes you up and you come down roughly 400 steps of tight helical staircase, which the basilica describes as unsuitable for anyone with vertigo or mobility difficulty. There is no option to climb up. The two façades have different towers and different tickets, and the Passion side has a slightly wider stair. Gaudí's helicoidal design is modelled on a snail shell and has no central column to hold, which is what makes the descent disconcerting.
