A complete product tested by Underwriters Laboratories against its safety standard.
What it looks like
The letters UL in a circle, with the word LISTED and a control number beside it.
What it means
Unlike CE, this is genuine third-party certification: samples were tested and the factory is subject to follow-up inspection. It applies to a finished product for a stated use, and it is a safety mark, not a performance or quality one — a UL Listed appliance is unlikely to start a fire and may still be badly made. In the US, listing by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory is what electrical inspectors look for, and UL is the most common but not the only one.
Defined by UL certification programme. Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.

| EnergyGuide label (US) | The estimated annual energy cost of this appliance in the US, and how it compares with the range for its class. |
| Alternating current (AC) | Alternating current. On a power supply it marks the mains input side. |
| Direct current (DC) | Direct current. On a power supply it marks the output side. |
| Barrel jack polarity (centre positive or centre negative) | Which conductor of a barrel plug is positive: the inner pin or the outer sleeve. |
