Wallpaper calculator
How many rolls of wallpaper a room needs, allowing for pattern repeat.
How it works
Works out the number of rolls from the room perimeter, wall height and the roll dimensions, allowing for the pattern repeat.
Pattern repeat is what makes wallpaper estimating different from paint. Each drop has to start at the right point in the pattern, so anything up to a full repeat is trimmed off the top of every length. A large repeat can easily add a fifth to the total. A plain or random-match paper wastes almost nothing; a 64 cm repeat wastes a great deal.
Buy all rolls from the same batch number, printed on the label. Colour varies between print runs by enough to see on adjacent drops.

Common questions
- How many rolls of wallpaper do I need?
- Divide the wall height plus the pattern repeat into the roll length to get drops per roll, then divide the perimeter by the roll width to get the drops needed.
- Why does pattern repeat matter?
- Each drop must start at the same point in the pattern, so up to one full repeat is trimmed from every length. A large repeat can add 20% to the rolls required.
