How many steps to the top of Bunker Hill Monument?
A granite obelisk on the Freedom Trail with 294 steps and no lift of any kind — the climb is the only way up, which makes it one of the more honest entries in this list. It was finished in 1843, using one of the earliest commercial railways in the United States, built specifically to haul the granite from Quincy. The observation chamber has four small windows. There is no rest platform, so the climb is done in one go.

About 10-15 minutes. No lift, no seating, and single file on the spiral in both directions.
Published counts for the same structure routinely disagree by five to ten per cent, and nearly always for one of three reasons: whether intermediate landings count as steps, whether the final platform step counts, and where the climb is deemed to start. The figure here says what it reaches.
