What is an Adhesive bandage (plaster) made of?
A plastic or fabric backing with pressure-sensitive adhesive, and a pad faced with a film that will not stick to the wound.
The pad facing is the part that quietly matters: without a non-adherent film, dried exudate binds the fibres into the wound and pulling it off removes the new tissue. The other useful piece of evidence is that a covered wound heals faster than an uncovered one — moist wound healing has been standard practice since the 1960s, and letting a cut "air out" to scab over slows healing and can produce a worse scar. Hydrocolloid dressings take this furthest, forming a gel over the wound; they are the same technology as the blister plasters that stay on for days. Adhesive allergy, when it happens, is usually to a rubber accelerator or a resin rather than to the plastic.
