Direct current. On a power supply it marks the output side.

What it looks like
A solid horizontal line above a dashed or dotted line of the same length.
What it means
It sits beside the output rating on an adapter — 5 V, 2 A, or 19 V, 3.42 A — and those two numbers govern whether a substitute will work. Voltage must match; current capacity may be equal or greater, since a device draws only what it needs, and a supply rated below the requirement overheats. Matching the connector is not enough on its own, and neither is matching the voltage without checking the polarity mark.
Defined by IEC 60417-5031. Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.
