EU energy label (A to G)
How efficient the appliance is, on a scale from A to G, alongside consumption figures.
What it looks like
A ladder of coloured arrows from dark green at the top to red at the bottom, lettered A down to G, with the product's grade called out beside it.
What it means
The scale was rescaled in March 2021 and this is the part that confuses people: A+, A++ and A+++ were abolished and the ladder reset to A–G, so a fridge that was sold as A+++ became a C or a D overnight without anything about it changing. The top grade was deliberately left empty to leave room for future products. The label also carries a QR code linking to the EU product database entry, and the secondary figures — annual kWh, noise in decibels, capacity — are often more useful than the letter.
Defined by Regulation (EU) 2017/1369. Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.
