Codes that look close but are not
| Code | Why it is not a substitute |
|---|---|
| LR920 / LR69 / 171 | Alkaline at 1.5 V with a sloping curve and around half the capacity. Chronograph movements draw hard when the stopwatch runs, and that is exactly where the alkaline voltage sags. |
| SR927SW / 395 | Same 9.5 mm diameter, 2.6 mm tall instead of 2.1. It will not close a 371 compartment. |
The SR920SW is a primary cell and must never be put in a charger. Charging a sealed primary battery builds gas pressure inside a can with no vent designed for it, which is how they rupture or catch fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist for several sizes and carry different codes — check the code, not the shape.
Where it turns up
- Quartz chronographs and multi-hand watches
- Seiko and Citizen chronograph movements
- Digital calipers and micrometers
- Small electronic games
Common questions
- What is equivalent to a SR920SW?
- 371, 370, SR69, SR920, SR920W, AG6, D371, V371, GP371, SB-AN — all the same 1.55 V cell under different manufacturer codes.
- Can I use a LR920 / LR69 / 171 instead of a SR920SW?
- Alkaline at 1.5 V with a sloping curve and around half the capacity. Chronograph movements draw hard when the stopwatch runs, and that is exactly where the alkaline voltage sags.
- Is the SR920SW rechargeable?
- No. It is a primary cell — charging one risks rupture or fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist in the same size under different codes.
