Codes that look close but are not
| Code | Why it is not a substitute |
|---|---|
| Size 13 / PR48 | Same 7.9 mm diameter but 5.4 mm tall instead of 3.6. Orange tab, not brown. This is the pair people mix up, because only the height differs — a 13 will not fit a 312 door, and a 312 in a 13 compartment sits loose. |
| SR41 / LR41 | Also 7.9 × 3.6 mm, but 1.55 V silver oxide and 1.5 V alkaline respectively, sealed rather than air-breathing. Not hearing aid cells. |
The PR41 is a primary cell and must never be put in a charger. Charging a sealed primary battery builds gas pressure inside a can with no vent designed for it, which is how they rupture or catch fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist for several sizes and carry different codes — check the code, not the shape.
Where it turns up
- Receiver-in-canal hearing aids
- Mini behind-the-ear instruments
- In-the-canal aids
- The most common hearing aid size sold
Brown tab. Typically three to ten days per cell depending on how hard the aid is streaming Bluetooth audio.
Common questions
- What is equivalent to a PR41?
- ZA312, A312, AC312, DA312, P312, 312A, S312, V312, 7002ZD, PR41 — all the same 1.4 V cell under different manufacturer codes.
- Can I use a Size 13 / PR48 instead of a PR41?
- Same 7.9 mm diameter but 5.4 mm tall instead of 3.6. Orange tab, not brown. This is the pair people mix up, because only the height differs — a 13 will not fit a 312 door, and a 312 in a 13 compartment sits loose.
- Is the PR41 rechargeable?
- No. It is a primary cell — charging one risks rupture or fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist in the same size under different codes.
