Codes that look close but are not

Code Why it is not a substitute
SR754 / 393 Silver oxide in the same can, 1.55 V flat, half again the capacity.
PR48 / size 13 hearing aid Identical 7.9 × 5.4 mm dimensions, but zinc-air at 1.4 V with vent holes that must stay open. Never a substitute either way.

The LR754 is a primary cell and must never be put in a charger. Charging a sealed primary battery builds gas pressure inside a can with no vent designed for it, which is how they rupture or catch fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist for several sizes and carry different codes — check the code, not the shape.

Common questions

What is equivalent to a LR754?
193, AG5, LR48, L754, V5GA, GP193, G5A, 309A, 393A — all the same 1.5 V cell under different manufacturer codes.
Can I use a SR754 / 393 instead of a LR754?
