Codes that look close but are not

Code Why it is not a substitute
PR48 / size 13 hearing aid Exactly the same 7.9 × 5.4 mm can, but zinc-air at 1.4 V that only works once air reaches it through the vent holes. It is not a watch cell and a watch cell is not a hearing aid cell.
LR754 / LR48 / 193 Alkaline, 1.5 V, 53 mAh, sloping discharge.

The SR754 is a primary cell and must never be put in a charger. Charging a sealed primary battery builds gas pressure inside a can with no vent designed for it, which is how they rupture or catch fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist for several sizes and carry different codes — check the code, not the shape.

Where it turns up

Common questions

What is equivalent to a SR754?
393, 309, SR48, SR754W, SR754SW, D393, V393, 1137SO, SB-B4 — all the same 1.55 V cell under different manufacturer codes.
Can I use a PR48 / size 13 hearing aid instead of a SR754?
Exactly the same 7.9 × 5.4 mm can, but zinc-air at 1.4 V that only works once air reaches it through the vent holes. It is not a watch cell and a watch cell is not a hearing aid cell.
Is the SR754 rechargeable?
No. It is a primary cell — charging one risks rupture or fire. Rechargeable look-alikes exist in the same size under different codes.
