An empty square.
What it means
The bare square is the parent symbol for every natural-drying instruction, and the lines drawn inside it are what specify how. One vertical line means hang on a line, three vertical lines mean hang dripping wet, one horizontal line means lay flat. A diagonal stripe added in the top-left corner of any of them means keep it out of direct sun.
Defined by ISO 3758. Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.
