Tumble dry high — three dots
Tumble dry high — three dots
Tumble dry at high heat.
•••
What it looks like
A square with a circle inside it and three dots in the circle.
What it means
This one is jurisdictional: ASTM D5489, the US guide, defines three dots as high heat, and ISO 3758 does not use a three-dot tumble-dry symbol at all — the ISO scale stops at two. Seeing three dots therefore tells you the label was written for the North American market. Treat it as permission for the hottest setting on towels and heavy cotton only; almost nothing else benefits, and high heat is what sets creases into cotton so hard that ironing cannot fully remove them.
Defined by ASTM D5489 (not used in ISO 3758). Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.
