What it looks like

W
Do not professionally wet clean

A circle with the letter W inside it and a cross through the whole thing.

What it means

It nearly always accompanies a dry-clean symbol, and together they say the same thing twice: keep water away from this. Structured jackets, glued or fused constructions, leather trims and anything with a non-washable lining are the usual reasons. It is a newer symbol than the rest of the row and is missing from older labels entirely, so its absence is not permission.

Defined by ISO 3758. Where a symbol differs between standards, the difference is described above rather than resolved — both versions are in circulation on real labels.
