Doubling the rotation rate quadruples the centrifugal effect, because it scales with the square of angular velocity. At the equator that effect currently subtracts about 0.034 metres per second squared from gravity — roughly a third of a per cent — so quadrupling it would make an equatorial person about 1.4 per cent lighter, which is noticeable on a scale and not much else. The equatorial bulge would grow, pushing sea level higher near the equator and lower at the poles by tens of metres. The Coriolis effect would double, tightening weather systems into smaller, faster-rotating storms and shifting the general circulation. Days would be twelve hours long, which would compress every biological cycle tuned to the current one, and the shorter heating and cooling period would reduce daily temperature swings.
